For more than three decades, Sergio Batarelli and Stéphane Cabrera have shared a rare and unbreakable friendship, one rooted in a shared vision, mutual respect, and a deep passion for combat sports.
Sergio Batarelli is a true pioneer and legend in the world of martial arts. An nine-time world kickboxing champion, he rose to become one of the most recognized fighters across South America l. After an outstanding fighting career, he transitioned into promotion, becoming the first major fight promoter in Brazil, with events broadcast nationwide on television.
A visionary ahead of his time, Sergio made history by creating the legendary International Vale Tudo Championship (IVC), a groundbreaking organization that helped shape the early evolution of modern MMA. In the 1990s, he built a strong professional relationship with the World President of the WKN, a collaboration that soon evolved into a sincere and lasting friendship.
Together, they contributed significantly to the global expansion of combat sports. Sergio was also one of the key figures behind the success of K-1, helping to elevate its international recognition during its golden era. The WKN President, also Vice President of the IVC and one of the first to develop MMA in Europe, worked closely with Sergio during this pivotal period in the sport’s history.
Sergio himself played a key role in the success of major international organizations, bringing his unmatched expertise and strategic vision.
Beyond promotion, Sergio Batarelli proved to be an exceptional manager. He helped elevate numerous world champions in boxing and supported legendary academies such as Chute Boxe, contributing to their global recognition. His keen eye for talent and his deep understanding of the fight game helped shine a spotlight on future icons of MMA, including Wanderlei Silva, Chuck Liddell, and many other legendary old school & pioneers mma fighters.
In addition, Sergio Batarelli took part in a historic early 1990s World Championship event organized by Don King. The night featured a heavyweight WKN title bout with Jérôme Le Banner, in front of more than 65,000 spectators, alongside stars such as IBF champion and heavyweight legend Evander Holyfield, marking one of the era’s most iconic combat sports events.
At the heart of this journey stands his enduring friendship with WKN president Stephane Cabrera.
