The Global President is thrilled to announce an upcoming visit to Paraguay, where he will meet one of the nationβs most extraordinary sports figures, Favio Potrillo Romero. Known as βPotrillo,β Romero hails from Ita, Paraguay, and has left an indelible mark on both amateur and professional boxing.
Romero began his amateur career at the age of 13 and went on to win 17 national championships across multiple weight categories: mini flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, and lightweight. He was named Paraguayβs best amateur athlete three times and best professional athlete twice, and he even qualified for the pre-Olympics in Atlanta 1996.
Favio Potrillo Romero made his professional debut on June 14, 2006, fighting with an orthodox stance and eventually becoming the first World Boxing League (WBL) World Champion. Over his professional career, he achieved an impeccable record of 24 wins, 0 losses, and 0 draws. As an amateur, he fought 91 matches, winning 80, drawing 10, and losing only once. He was trained at the Bodyth Rogger Gym in Fernando de la Mora under coach Bodyth Zamorano.
Born on April 30, 1979, Romero is not only a boxing legend but also a promoter and a driving force in developing combat sports in Paraguay.
