THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO 📸
WKN & Japan: A Legacy of Honor and Global Excellence
For more than 30 years, the World Kickboxing Network – WKN and Japan have shared a powerful history built on respect, discipline, and excellence.
This photograph, taken during the first HISTORIC WKN Junior World Championship in Madrid, captures far more than a fight. It shows a young Japanese continental champion facing a young Spanish continental champion, two elite athletes representing the future of their continents under one global banner.
What made this moment truly exceptional was the presence of the legendary Kaicho Ihara, one of the greatest and first champions in kickboxing history and a true pioneer of the sport. His attendance symbolized the connection between the foundations of Japanese kickboxing and the new generation stepping onto the world stage.
Standing proudly in the ring, holding 32 years of WKN history in his hands, was Chinto Mordillo, known as “El Samurai.” A former WKN World Champion, he is widely recognized across Spain as one of the greatest Spanish fighters of all time, if not the greatest, respected and known by all within the country.
In that moment, he was not simply holding a belt. He was carrying decades of legacy, credibility, and international recognition. His pride reflected not only personal achievement, but the strength and legitimacy of WKN on the global stage.
Over the years, WKN has also collaborated with Japan’s leading organizations, including RIZIN Fighting Federation, Ganryujima, K-1, Knock Out, REBELS, Shidokan, and RISE, reinforcing its deep roots and strong presence in the country.
This image will remain a historic memory in kickboxing a symbol of unity between Japan and Spain, of legacy passed from pioneers to champions, and of WKN’s respected position worldwide.
More than a championship — a legacy carried forward.
