We are excited to announce that Steve Kalakoda is under negotiation to be officially appointed as the WKN – World Kickboxing Network Coordinator for South Africa. In this pivotal role, Steve will oversee all WKN-related activities in the country, including organizing events, supporting fighters, and promoting kickboxing and Muay Thai in South Africa. This promotion marks a significant milestone for the WKN in Africa, and we are thrilled to have Steve as our lead representative in South Africa.
Steve’s appointment reflects his deep commitment to the sport and his longstanding relationship with the WKN president—a partnership that has lasted for over 30 years. His vast experience and dedication to developing athletes, along with his strong ties to the global combat sports community, make him an invaluable asset to the WKN network.

Steve Kalakoda is a legendary figure in South African combat sports. With a rich background in boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai, Steve has made an enormous impact as both a fighter and coach. He is renowned for his technical expertise and his ability to train fighters to the highest level. Kalakoda is known for his dedication, his exceptional coaching skills, and his deep understanding of the mental and physical challenges that come with combat sports.
Over the years, Steve Kalakoda has been the mentor and coach of several legendary fighters, including:
• Francois “White Buffalo” Botha – A multiple-time world champion boxer, Francois Botha competed against some of the biggest names in boxing, including Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield. While he didn’t win his fight against Tyson, Botha’s career was defined by his power and determination, and Kalakoda played a pivotal role in his development.
• Zolani Tete – Former WBO World Champion in boxing. Kalakoda played an instrumental role in Tete’s rise to the top of the bantamweight division, guiding him to global success.

• Mzwandile Hlongwa – An emerging star in Muay Thai and kickboxing, Hlongwa has the potential to follow in the footsteps of Kalakoda’s other successful athletes.
• Virgile Kalakoda – Steve Kalakoda’s son, Virgile is not only a talented boxer but also an accomplished kickboxer. Virgile has competed at the highest levels of kickboxing and continues to build his career, carrying forward the Kalakoda legacy in both boxing and kickboxing.
