Romania 🇷🇴 – A Historic Landmark in the World History of Kickboxing !
In the global evolution of kickboxing, Romania holds a special place — thanks to the visionary work of the WKN, which was the first international federation to develop and promote the sport in the country. It laid the foundation and roots of professional kickboxing in Romania, paving the way for generations of fighters and promoters.
The WKN was the first to establish the organizational foundations of kickboxing in Romania, introducing a professional structure with official weigh-ins and exclusive press conferences, broadcast live on national television. These events were supported by reliable and respected media partners, helping elevate the image and credibility of the sport across the country.
A defining moment came in 2014, when the WKN organized the first-ever Kickboxing World Championship in Romania, held in the city of Galați.
The event featured the legendary Samir “The Little Prince” Mohamed 🇫🇷, who entered the ring with an undefeated record of 99 professional fights. His 100th bout was nothing short of historic — a world title fight against Ukraine’s 🇺🇦 Alexander Kozachenko, a fierce and respected opponent.
In Samir’s corner that night stood two major figures: Stéphane Cabrera, President of the WKN and his longtime coach, and Mr. Raul Irimia, a respected name in Romanian boxing and a key influence in the sport’s development in the country. Their combined experience and leadership played a crucial role in guiding Samir to victory.
The fight was masterfully organized by Romania’s top promoter, Eduard Irimia, together with Stéphane Cabrera. It was a night of high emotion, intensity, and skill, culminating in an unforgettable moment: a stunning third-round knockout by Samir, which sealed his legacy and thrilled fans worldwide.
Broadcast live on Eurosport, the event reached audiences across Europe and Asia, showcasing not only the excellence of the athletes but also the pioneering role of the WKN in bringing world-class kickboxing to Romania.

Sadly, today, the WKN no longer organizes events in Romania — a country that has since chosen the path of more easy titles and short-lived glory over lasting legacy and true sporting excellence as before.
