Restoring the Glory of Spanish πͺπΈ Combat Sports !
Spain, once a powerhouse in combat sports under the WKN, was home to legendary champions, prestigious organizations, and meticulously organized titles. Names like Chinto Mordillo, Juanito Garcia, Javier Moya, Cezar Cordoba, Jordi Calvet, Oscar Lara, Oscar Biel, Oso Perez, and German Tabuenca etched Spain into the annals of history as a breeding ground for Europe’s elite fighters. More recently, athletes such as Benitez, Campoy, Babayan, Menem, Requejo & fews others have continued this legacy.
Gone are the days when more than 5,000 people would gather to witness the great WKN championships of Cezar Cordoba, Chinto Mordillo, or Javier Moya. Even in the island of Palma de Mallorca, 7,000 spectators came together to watch Juanito Garcia’s WKN world championship bout against a Thai opponent.
However, in recent years, the landscape has changed dramatically. Promoters have turned to minor federations, prioritizing easier and more financially economical titles. This shift has led to an overflow of small organizations hosting championships that lack prestige and significance.
This decline is deeply regrettable. Spain, once recognized worldwide as a reservoir of exceptional fighters, now struggles with a fragmented system that undermines the value and recognition of combat sports. The long list of WKN champions, admired and respected globally, reminds us of a time when Spain set the standard in Europe and beyond.
Today, we are doing our utmost to reverse this trend and restore Spainβs illustrious reputation. Yet, this is no easy task, as the damage caused by years of neglect runs deep. Nonetheless, we remain committed to bringing Spanish combat sports back to their rightful place on the global stage.
