Restoring Respect and Integrity in Modern Combat Sports

Restoring Respect and Integrity in Modern Combat Sports !
We like to think we’ve seen it all in the world of combat sports, but unfortunately, sometimes reality proves otherwise. Situations occur that should simply never happen: a man fighting a woman, one man against multiple opponents, or mismatches of skill and size—even one man fighting three little people / persons of short stature at the same time. This weekend in Brazil, for example, an event devolved into a general brawl, during which a recognized Brazilian fighter was struck and knocked out in an exchange that had nothing to do with sport.
It is urgent that we return to serious sporting standards that respect the integrity of the sport and its athletes. This means competitors of the same weight, same skill level, and same fighting style. Combat sports are not the arenas of the Roman Empire, where anything was allowed. Humanity has evolved, and there is no place for such chaos in modern sport.
For several years, the WKN has implemented a document official « CODE OF RESPECT «, sent to all our promoters and published worldwide. This initiative goes exactly in this direction: ensuring that combat sports remain professional, fair, and respectful of human dignity. Unfortunately, we are still the only organization to have done this.
We hope that, in the near future, the regulation of combat sports—if they can still be called “sports” by some—will return to a normal, respectful state, honoring both the athletes and the values of humanity. The essence of combat sports must be integrity, fairness, and respect, not chaos and spectacle.
