Johnny Smith vs Lee Sung-hyun for WKN World welterweight title set for Sept 12 in Belfast

Johnny Smith of Northern Ireland and Lee Sung-hyun of Korea will battle it out for World Kickboxing Network welterweight title on September 12 at Stormont Hotel in Belfast. The five-round championship bout headlines the next edition of “made in Prokick” events titled “Knockdown Lockdown”.

“Swift” Smith (9-0, 6 KOs) holds WKN Intercontinental welterweight title. He was last in action in October 2019 when he earned a world title shot by knockout in the second round against Shuhei Sone. Prior to that he stopped Lee Ji Hoon in Round 4. Earlier in his career he held an amateur world title and a record of 17-4-2.

Over the course of his career Lee Sung-hyun (55-9-1, 17 KOs) earned RISE middleweight and lightweight titles, as well as won a number of championship tournaments, including K-1 World MAX 2014. His resume includes the victories against Shintaro Matsukura, Chris Ngimbi, Andrei Kulebin, among others.

Smith vs Lee for WKN World welterweight title headlines a huge night of international kickboxing in Belfast. Among the undercard bouts, Northern Ireland’s Grace Goody goes up against Pia Peters of Germany for WKN European women’s bantamweight amateur title. As well, local Jay Snoddon takes on Ranieri Cingolani of Italy for WKN International featherweight amateur belt. In addition, representative of the country-host James Braniff meets Joshua Embradura of Wales for WKN British super lightweight amateur strap.

The event celebrates 32 years since former four-weight kickboxing world champion Billy Murray lifted his first professional world title.
