🇷🇴WKN Returns to Romania: A Legacy Reborn on the Shores of the Black Sea !
The return of the World Kickboxing Network to Romania represents far more than another sanctioning partnership—it marks the return of the organization that helped build the foundations of professional kickboxing in the country.
More than two decades ago, WKN became the leading international kickboxing federation in Romania through a historic collaboration between WKN World President Stephane Cabrera and the legendary Romanian promoter Eduard Irimia. Widely recognized as the greatest kickboxing promoter in Romanian history, Eduard Irimia organized the country’s biggest events and played a decisive role in the development of the sport before successfully expanding into other major sports and entertainment ventures.
Together, WKN and Eduard Irimia transformed the landscape of Romanian kickboxing. They established the country’s first major television broadcasting agreements for professional kickboxing, making WKN the first organization to bring the sport to Romanian television on a national scale. Shortly afterwards, WKN also secured a landmark partnership with Eurosport, allowing Romanian champions and WKN World Title events to be broadcast throughout Europe. For the first time, Romanian fighters gained unprecedented international exposure, helping establish Romania as one of the world’s leading kickboxing nations.
Romania has always possessed one of the deepest pools of kickboxing talent in the world. The international success of its athletes was built on the solid foundations established during those pioneering years, with WKN setting the highest standards of professional competition and international recognition.
Today, WKN is proud and honored to return to Romania for this prestigious event on the shores of the Black Sea, promoted by Alex Filip. This is not simply the return of an international federation—it is the return of the organization that pioneered professional kickboxing in Romania, opened the doors of television to the sport, and helped create its modern legacy.
We are delighted to write a new chapter of this remarkable story alongside Alex Filip and everyone committed to the continued growth of Romanian kickboxing.
