It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that the WKN, along with our global family, mourns the loss of our dear friend and partner, Steve Kalakoda. Steve was not only a legendary figure in South African combat sports but also a cherished mentor and friend whose impact reached far beyond the ring.
Steve’s unwavering passion for kickboxing, Muay Thai, and boxing was matched only by his dedication to nurturing athletes and growing the sport in South Africa. His vision and leadership were an inspiration to all, and his absence leaves an immense void in the WKN community.
Throughout his remarkable career, Steve guided and mentored countless champions, including Francois “White Buffalo” Botha, Zolani Tete, Mike Bernardo, Jan Nortje, Simphiwe Khonco, Lindsey Weatherspoon, Mzwandile Hlongwa, and his son Virgile Kalakoda. His technical mastery, boundless commitment, and love for the sport touched every life he encountered, leaving an enduring mark on generations of fighters.
Steve Kalakoda’s legacy will forever remain in the hearts of the WKN family and the global combat sports community. His kindness, positivity, and mentorship will be deeply missed, and the world of kickboxing has lost one of its brightest lights.
On behalf of the WKN President and our entire worldwide family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Steve’s family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched. Rest in peace, Steve your spirit, your passion, and your legacy will never be forgotten.
